A Summer’s Day in L’Ametlla de Mar: From the First Light of the Mediterranean to the Nights of La Cala
There are many ways to experience summer, but few are as Mediterranean as starting the day by the sea and ending it with a leisurely stroll through the streets of a seaside town.
In L’Ametlla de Mar, August is synonymous with the beach, long days and life out on the streets, but it can also be the perfect opportunity to discover that La Cala is much more than its beaches. All it takes is to adapt a little to the Mediterranean pace and let each moment of the day show us a different side of the town.
In summer, getting up early has its rewards.
The first hours of the day are one of the best times to head down to the coast. The temperature is more pleasant, the coves are still enjoying the tranquillity of the night, and the early morning light completely transforms the landscape.
Watching the sun rise over the Mediterranean, walking along a stretch of the GR-92 Coastal Path, or simply sitting by the sea is a privileged way to start the day.
It is also a good time to discover a coastline that is constantly changing: small coves, cliffs, pine trees that almost reach the water, and spots from which to admire a Mediterranean that, early in the morning, seems even more immense.
A morning among coves and crystal-clear waters
When the sun starts to take centre stage, it is time to enjoy one of L’Ametlla de Mar’s great attractions: its 20 kilometres of coastline.
Here, there is no single way to go to the beach. There are coves with fine, white sand, pebble beaches, small spots surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation, and more untouched areas where nature continues to shape the landscape.
We can also discover the coastline from the water. Snorkelling, kayaking or paddleboarding, sailing or scuba diving allow us to experience the coast from a completely different perspective.
Beneath the surface, there is also a fundamental part of this landscape: the seagrass meadows, an extraordinary ecosystem that contributes to the quality and transparency of our waters and reminds us of the importance of enjoying the Mediterranean while respecting it.
At midday, the Mediterranean comes to the table.
After a morning by the sea, another of the great pleasures of visiting L’Ametlla de Mar arrives: sitting down at the table.
Local cuisine cannot be understood without its fishing tradition. Fish from the fish market, rice dishes, fideus rossejats, arrossejat and Mediterranean bluefin tuna are all part of a cuisine closely linked to the local area and to generations of fishermen.
Eating in L’Ametlla de Mar is therefore much more than taking a break. It is also a way of getting to know the town through its flavours.
And in August, when the sun is at its strongest, taking a little longer over lunch and rediscovering that leisurely pace so characteristic of the Mediterranean summer doesn’t seem like a bad idea at all.
When the sun goes down, the day begins again.
From mid-afternoon onwards, L’Ametlla de Mar settles into a different rhythm.
It is a good time to head out again, walk along the seafront promenade, visit the fishing port or get lost in the streets of the town centre.
Boats, nets, façades overlooking the sea and murals inspired by seafaring culture each tell, in their own way, the story of a town that remains deeply connected to the Mediterranean.
It is also a good time to discover some of the viewpoints scattered throughout the municipality or return to the coastal path and watch how the light at the end of the day changes the colours of the coastline.
And when night falls...
August nights have a special atmosphere.
After a day of beach, activities and discoveries, it is time to take a leisurely stroll, have dinner outdoors, enjoy a drink on a terrace or check the events calendar to discover the activities that fill the summer nights.
The town remains lively, but the pace changes. The heat eases, the sea breeze arrives, and the streets invite you to extend the day a little longer.
Perhaps this is, precisely, one of the little great pleasures of a holiday: not looking at the clock.
This August, experience L’Ametlla de Mar at your own pace.
L’Ametlla de Mar has nearly 30 coves and beaches, but it would be a shame to come all the way here and leave with nothing more than a photograph of its crystal-clear waters.
Because behind every cove there is a landscape; behind the port, a story; behind every dish, a tradition; and behind the streets of the town, a way of life that continues to look towards the Mediterranean.
This August, get up early one day to watch the sunrise. Walk. Swim. Discover the seabed. Taste our local cuisine. Stroll around the port. Find a viewpoint. Sit on a terrace when the sun goes down.
And, above all, do it without rushing.
Because L’Ametlla de Mar is not just a place to spend the summer. It is a place to live it.
